Another Lovecraft nightmare - custom Cthulhu on its way

Publié le 31 Janvier 2007 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

As promised in my log, 2007 will see more nightmares from Lovecraftian myth, and we begin with a new custom Cthulhu. Again it will be a variation on the same theme, with its own personnality. The base will be the Water Dragon 4 from McFarlane, a very original dragon, perfectly suitable for a monstrous sea creature. I've added my own details, like additionnal double claws on feet, triple claws on arms, repositionned arms, triple clawed tail with mouth inside, additionnal spikes on head and arms, additionnal eyes and nostrils on head, and of course tentacle from Mutations Spawn, with added mouths/suckers on two of them. A very strange mouth wil complete the mini but I have to paint it before the assembly. The two wings will come  where the original arms of the dragon were, directed towards the back.

All parts in green are my own sculpt. For the painting, which shall begin today, I'll keep a dark tone with jade highlights, orange wings with dots, and probably purple/pink tentacles. Claws in graveyard earth / Kommando kaki from GW.

Nightmare Miniatures 2007 project log

Publié le 12 Janvier 2007 par Hellric dans Hellric

Hi there,

I hope the new year's eve was great for everyone and that 2007 will bring you much joy !

In the beginning of new year it's a good time to make some point and make plans for the year. So in 2007, I'll do more spawn-based custom figures than ever, because the ones I made in 2006 (Chulhu and Hive queen) were so fun and are such cool minis that I just can't stop there...

I plan at least 3 about the Lovecraft Mythos : 2 more custom Cthulhu figures, and a custom Mother Hydra. Searching ideas for a Dagon, but nothing precise in my mind yet about this guy.

Tyranid projects are also planned : a conversion of a malanthrope and another hive queen, based upon Her Majesty the Alien Queen herself.

I plan to expand my chaos collection by making a winged chaos lord and painting my Nurgle Daemon Prince. I hope to be able to do my converted Forgeworld Keeper of Secrets too.

Stay tuned for more all along this year. First projects will be the malanthrope and Custom Cthulhu 2.

Tyranid Hive Queen Ultima, complete !

Publié le 3 Janvier 2007 par Hellric dans Tyranids

AT LAST ! Project complete. Finally it has been quite fast since its beginning in mid october, with the first ideas coming in August. So the first shots of the creature are in my tyranid gallery, a little blurry 'cause it's very difficult for my cheap camera to focus due to the big size of the model. I hope you can get an idea of the beast, but I have to say that those pictures really don't do justice to the miniature, I'll try to make better ones with my father's camera. I think I've picked most of the details that were on the awesome alien spawn/mutation spawn.

I've just added some rocks, a ripper, egg and tyranid scenery from the stealer sprues to fill the base. Last details updated were the tail, wich is now done with epic tyranid parts and a spineripper head, to look more 'niddy'. Had to resculpt some textures on top left arm to hide a joint.

Hope you enjoy !

Giant Hive Queen, last update before end

Publié le 2 Janvier 2007 par Hellric dans Tyranids

Hey people,

First I want to wish you all the best for 2007 for you and your family, may your wishes (well, at least some of them) come true and let's hope 2007 will bring us a lot of great new nightmares miniatures and projects.

I'm very happy because my giant hive queen project is coming to its end : the beast is now painted, and I'm finally very satisfied with the result, and this is a relief because on such a big project, you have doubts and fear that all the work you put into the model might not pay in the end. I could have be even further with the paint job but there were so many details to bring to life that I don't have courage to work more on them, but it's cool anyway, and my goal ain't to et a Golden Demon, just to make a cool mini. Now I'm just making a few finitions like a base. The base won't be that impressive, I'll keep it quite simple to contrast with the very busy monster :) I also have to find an appropriate name. Suggestions are welcome : hellric@swing.be if you have an idea...

Now just a few days and you'll be able to see the beast. Be prepared ;)
