Troll Forged Miniatures - Rot Demon

Publié le 24 Mars 2008 par Hellric dans Chaos & Demons

Today, I'm very excited to show you a new miniature. It's a "Rot Demon", made by a young, brand new and talented miniature Sculptor, known as Hivetrygon on many boards. I've lurked on Warpshadow forum and we have discovered a common taste for big, ugly, tentacled monstrosities. He's decided to make his own miniature company, called Troll Forged Miniatures.
I was very proud that he asked me to paint for him, so he's send me a batch of his first minis. Among these, the Rot Demon.
I had total liberty on the paint, but I went for a Nurglesque look, as the model could make a great alternative model for Nurgle's Great Unclean One, all Warhammer 40k and Fantasy chaos players should have a look.
The figure is in white resin, which means great detail and better strength that yellowish one, it's 10 cm (4") high, with a 40 mm square base.
The pic now:

As usual, more pictures are in the gallery : 1234

Now you want to buy it ? Check www.trollsforge.com
I have 3 more to do so I move to my painting desk now ;)

Warhammer 40K : new daemons are coming

Publié le 11 Mars 2008 par Hellric dans Miniatures news

The highly expected Codex Daemon is to be released in May by Games Workshop. Nearly all the new models have been unveiled @ Games Days, so here's a summary of what to expect:
Here's the Soulgrinder, a new version of the Defiler, a the very good surprise of the bunch :

It's a plastic kit which comes with mainly Slaanesh and Khorne options.

Then some lesser daemon are redone :

Bloodletters, Daemonettes, Plaguebearers, fleshounds of Khorne, Beasts of Nurgle, Fiends of Slaanesh

We also have a new kind of demon, between Daemon Princes and lesser Daemons, called Daemon Heralds. Here they are :
The Masque of Slaanesh, Epidemius of Nurgle, Skulltaker of Khorne. I don't know you, but I was disappointed with those releases, mainly by the lack of new greater daemons and daemon princes, but also by the designs of the heralds, who are just chaos champions mixed with lesser daemons, quite uninspired. The greater daemons only get new packages ! I don't understand GW's policy of NOT making a plastic daemon prince and/or greater daemons. They would sell a lot of them, as for the Carnifex kit, because it'd be much simpler to convert them, I wonder why GW did choose this low profile attitude when renewing the daemons range. All lesser daemons are cool though, they are quite a step back to the early glory days of Realms of Chaos, I like that. Another reflection is that the minis don't seem so well painted, check the Fleshhounds for example. Other miniatures companies present way better painted minis now...

Third Custom Great Cthulhu finished

Publié le 7 Mars 2008 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

It took finally less time that I thought, motivation was high and it was so funny to paint that it's already done. And though it's no award winner custom, I'm very happy of it, I love its original design, with features of many aquatic creatures as fish, frog, squid, lizard... After all, Cthulhu lies under water for aeons, so  many creatures of the oceans are his children :)
I also tried to make nice pics, and the colours are nearly exactly like on the model.

I went for an aquatic paint scheme, inspired by some of my aquarium's fishes and by the genuine Mcfarlane water dragon 5, a lighter version of what I did for the custom cthulhu 2, even more bright and vivid. The crystal ball were covered by plastic film during spray basing, so they are still transparent.
As usual, I used mainly Games Workshop and Vallejo acrylics, it's coated in matte varnish, it ha a black basecoat.

For information about the used parts, check the WIP article here, but it's mainly the sum of these figures :

And now, enough babble, welcome the master of Tentacles !

And other views and even more Lovecraft goodness here : 1, 2, 3, 4. You like it, don't like it, have questions ? Then we can discuss it in the comments section ("ajouter un commentaire")...

Cloverfield Monster figure from Hasbro

Publié le 7 Mars 2008 par Hellric dans Miniatures news

After months of suspense, the wait is finally over, the mysterious monster of the successful Cloverfield movie is unveiled. There had been many rumours that it's be Lovecraft related, or that it was even the Great Cthulhu, but no, it's a brand new design. I wouldn't say original, as it's just a big hunched quadruped, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with it.
Anyway, it's a 14 inch figure with 70 articulation points, it roars like in the movie, you have two heads, the Liberty statue head and 10 parasites, so we may say you have for your money as it's sold 99 $ (65 EUR)...

I think I'll wait for a smaller version, as I don't have too much place for this one :)

Wonfes 2008 : Revoltech Gurren Laggan Ultimate form

Publié le 2 Mars 2008 par Hellric dans Mech & robots

In the toy hobby, Revoltech is a very successful serie, becaus e they are cheap and nice, a can be posed as no others, but I never found it so appealing, because it lacked original models that suit my strange taste.

This is going to change. In 2008 Tokyo's Wonfes, Kayiodo has shown a prototype of the ultimate, galaxy-sized form of Gurren Laggan, and I was immediately in love with its baroque style.

No release date set yet but I'll watch out and let you know, prices should be as other models of the series, round 2000-3000 yen (20 $).
