We know a bit more about the Lovecraft things I had shown here and who are part of the new Monsterpocalypse game from Privateer Press. Now the colour pictures are released, and these monsters are part of a faction called "Lords of Cthul", summoned from another dimension by insane worshippers... I've seen this somewhere, but I wonder where  ;) ?
I'm more and more interested in this game mixing big monsters from outer space, super robots and Cthulhu :)
Still no information about prices. Release is expected for fall 2008, as a collectible miniatures game.

Thanks to my Japanese friend, I've grabbed some cheap plastic figures from Kaiju movies like Gamera and Godzilla. These miniatures, incorrectly called "Gashapons" by many people, have actually some good details and their own style.
Then, when I got them, I told myself :"Why not make a Kaiju-style Cthulhu, as if Cthulhu was in some Gamera or Godzilla show ?".

A few months later, as time was available, I could finish the monster : a mix of turtle, dinosaur, dragon, and of course tentacles, big claws and wings as any good Cthulhu should have :)

A tasty detail is the Predator - like mandibles on each side of the jaw. The tentacles and some extra claws are made with Procreate grey stuff, that was also used to fill the gaps.

Also, in the general scheme  of making a Cthulhu-themed tyranid army, this guy would make a nice Guard - star spawn. The paintscheme was actually the same as my latest tyranid hive tyrant and Hive Queen II.

There's the beast :

You can as usual find more pictures : 123, and 4 more ! RRRRRROOOOAAAAARRRR !

It took finally less time that I thought, motivation was high and it was so funny to paint that it's already done. And though it's no award winner custom, I'm very happy of it, I love its original design, with features of many aquatic creatures as fish, frog, squid, lizard... After all, Cthulhu lies under water for aeons, so  many creatures of the oceans are his children :)
I also tried to make nice pics, and the colours are nearly exactly like on the model.

I went for an aquatic paint scheme, inspired by some of my aquarium's fishes and by the genuine Mcfarlane water dragon 5, a lighter version of what I did for the custom cthulhu 2, even more bright and vivid. The crystal ball were covered by plastic film during spray basing, so they are still transparent.
As usual, I used mainly Games Workshop and Vallejo acrylics, it's coated in matte varnish, it ha a black basecoat.

For information about the used parts, check the WIP article here, but it's mainly the sum of these figures :

Yeah, I was right :)

Some times ago, SOTA Toys has shown a shadow of a mysterious upcoming model, and my interpretation was that it was a new version of the Great Cthulhu. Indeed !
But I didn't expect than it would be a high end collector statue 14 inches tall and with a wingspan of 22 inches ! It also weights 249 $ and will come in "extremely limited numbers". No need to say that mine is already preordered ;)

SOTA also announces that Sideshow collectibles will make another variant ... so I'm afraid that 2008 will be hard for my wallet !

Hallo there !

As my inspiration has shifted, my project of another homemade Great Cthulhu has grown and is now ready to be painted.

I tried to make another style of Cthulhu, more thin and with enhanced features from various water beasties. I alkso tried to make it dynamic but still corresponding to usual pose (crouch on rocks). OK I know Cthulhu is supposed to be fat but it's also supposed to be able to shift its mass  at will so here most of it is on the wings, head, legs and tail : ready to move !

It's based on McFarlane Sorcerer Dragon from Serie 5 for the body, wings are from Komodo Clan dragon from the same serie. The head and tail finns are from the Reaper Goroloth, a perfec head for a Cthulhu, isn't it ?
The hands are from Water Dragon from Mcfarlane dragons, serie 3. I added spikes using ProCreate on shoulders, elbows, knees, long nails to fingers, and to fill the gaps between parts of course. I added also some finns on the legs. Right are has also to be repositionned as it was in the way of the tentacles :)

Now I have to paint it, should take about 2 months due to my workload. As usual, the wings will be assembled after painting, so they can be more easily handled...
