Here's a new model in my collection, the EVA-01 test type from Evangelion anime, made by Bandai for their "Movie realisation" serie. It's all plastic but it has a great poseability and the alternative armour is a real plus compared to the many other EVA's. Very nice for a sweet price (got it for 33 $)

Check both modes :

It's time to review more of the things from my latest haul from Japan. Today we have a look at the SPEC XS-07 Black Sarena from Bandai.
Kind of spinoff of the very appreciated Soul of Chogokin line, SPEC feature less known, cheaper and less elaborate figures.
Black Sarena is no exception, it's not a very popular robot, I didn't know it before the release of this figure, but I love the bulky and original design. It reminds me some Super Robot Wars mechas.
The box is very nice and loaded of accessories, the original Aestivalis custom can transform into the Black Sarena (shown here) and the High Mobility Suit for large space travel. So it feature some potential for changing and transforming, good point. Poseability is minimal in the Black Sarena, you can only really move the arms and the hatches on the side, who reveal reactors when opened. The figure is 13 cm high to the top of the head, not so much, but I like the proportions, and the tail is already big enough, it uses more shelfspace that you would think.
Most collectors will ask : "how about the diecast content ?". I have to say it's reduced to the minimum, only some parts of the skeleton of the Aestivalis suit are diecast, the rest is plastic, and not the best one : hard and glossy, but not so classy. Paint is also very limited, only the red parts are painted, but this is some very clean job, fortunately.
As a conclusion, the model is nice, has many accessories, but is certainly no must, it lacks some premium finish to appeal the real collector. More a toy than a real collection item actually, and so it's a bit overpriced...
But make no mistake, I love it and it's not going for sale :)
Also take a look at the back and the side...

My third action figure from the A3 Total Eclipse made by Volks has arrived safely last week.

I have to say this is my favourite figure of that range so far. Its camo paint scheme reminds of the actual Su-37 superiority fighter from Sukhoï (Russian marine).
The design of the back reactors also reminds this fighter.

Poseability is good as other figures of that range but I have to say it's sometimes tricky to get the balance to make him stand. As accessories you have empty hands, a gun (on hand and to attach to the back) and 2 knives.

The figure is 16 cm high and contains no diecast. For people who like to expose the bots in their boxes, the box is nicely designed and classy.

I love the "realism" of this model compared to super robots from most anime, it really feels as it actually exists in some secret weapons laboratory :)

Stay tuned for more A3's, the F-22 is pre-ordered :)

Hallo people, now it's time for some Robot-goodness...
I'd like to share this one with you, as it's a quite unknown robot from a new toy company called A-Label.
I had first ordered it, then cancelled because it was too expensive, and finally got it again cheaper on YJA with the great help of my friend Masayuki, who did excellent hunting again.
Demonbane is an anime with robots and influenced by HP Lovecraft's works and among this the Cthulhu mythos : many names are taken from there and you can even see the Great Old One summoned in an episode.
I've been interested in this model because of its very original design and unusual proportions, mixing elements from Super Robot Wars, Gundam and Evangelion.
So this new toy is a high-end robot for collectors (Soul of Chogokin - like). It comes with a large array of weapons : a shurriken (open and closed), a dual blade, two revolvers, 4 pairs of hands. It has the wing option too.
The diecast content is huge, the whole body, arms and legs are diecast, only the head and accessories are not ! The joints are strong so this is a very stable figure. It comes with a stand but I didn't need it actually. Paint application is simple but nearly perfect, and very small decals are really well done. The box is also top class.
You can find detail shots and other views here, herehereherehere and also there .
I was a bit reluctant to buy it, but it was a very good surprise, in the end this is one of my favourites, with the Megahouse Zwauth and the Max Factory Genesic Gaogaigar !
