Cthulhu from Go Native Toys

Publié le 20 Avril 2017 par Hellric

Here's my painted version of Go Native Toys' Cthulhu. Very crisp resin cast, parts fit perfectly together, choice of 2 big scenic bases that can be combined. This very cool model is 14 cm high without base. It offers a very unique take on the great old one, very aquatic looking, and the "tentacle" theme is not only on the head but also repeating along legs, fingers, tail, feet.

I really love this one and warmly recommend it to tentacle-loving collectors around this world and others ;)

Great Cthulhu statue - Halloween Forevermore

Publié le 25 Mars 2017 par Hellric

Hey folks, here's the latest addition to my collection of cosmic horrors :)

As announced earlier, I bought Halloween Forevermore's Cthulhu Statue, and here it is.

The model itself is very massive and has a nice presence on the shelf, and though it's not as sharp and detailed as statues from Sideshow, it's still interesting because of the original design, very aquatic looking, and the price is also half the one of Sideshow's models. So I'm very happy to have this baby in my office.

I also got the model from Figone and it's already assembled. Can't wait to paint this one !

Figone Cthulhu kit, by Allan Carrasco

Publié le 18 Mars 2017 par Hellric dans Cthulhu, Miniatures news

Just a quick one to share a find : famous French painter Jeremie Bonamant-Teboul has released a very cool Cthulhu resin miniature (68 mm high) for his miniature company "Figone", sculpted by the artist-sculptor extraordinaire Allan Carrasco.

I ordered immediately this one, not only because i'm an addictive collector of all Great Old One related stuff, but because his take on it is very strange and disturbing : it's unusual to have 4 arms and a weapon, the head is full of randomly placed eyes, yet the pose of the hands is very "human" like, it has a bulbous back. Though I won't manage to paint it 1/10th as well as Jérémie did, I can't wait to throw some paint on it !

Winter is going away ! :)

Publié le 17 Mars 2017 par Hellric

Hi guys, so here in Belgium, winter is slowly moving away so I'm awakening from my creative hibernation ! I'm also helped by some exciting miniatures coming : the Tzeentch models from GW rocks, love the Primarch Magnus and the Lord of Change and can't wait to see the upcoming Fulgrim for sure I'll need those. Then I got my War demon and Fallen Angel from the Creature Caster Kickstarter, but that's 2 years late ! So please think twice before backing up something on Kickstarter unless you are insanely patient ! Then I ordered a Cthulhu Statue from Halloween Forevermore, a small business run by a fellow Belgian who emigrated to the States 30 years ago, check it here : https://www.halloweenforevermore.com/product/cthulhu-limited-edition-resin-statue/ And last but not least, I found yesterday a very cool resin kit of my all-times favorite great old one : http://gonativetoys.com/kitz_cthulhu.html I think my first jobs will be painting this one and the Tentacle and Teeth exclusive Cthulhu miniature. Stay tuned and f'thagn !

Cthulhu 🐙 using "Pride" from The Others, Seven Sins

Publié le 28 Décembre 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

Hi there, it's been long time since I painted something, sorry for that !

But now i'm enjoying winter holidays and so I finally did the conversion I wanted to do for such a long time, using the figure of "Pride" from the game "The others, Seven sins".

I was relieved to get the models (it's often quite random with Kickstarter, you never know :/ ) and also happy to see that the tentacled wings I planned to use fit perfectly to the model for the size but also for the look, with all those suckers along the tentacle-like structure of the wing. Those wings come from "Gluttony" from Raging Heroes, oh and yes, that's another sin, two sins are actually included in one model ! 😈

Just went for the classical greenish Cthulhu scheme with distinctive color for the suckers. I used matte varnish but it seems it's too old and turned very shiny, but I like it like that, looks more slimy and disgusting ! 😊🐙

To end this latest article from 2016, I wish you all a very nice New Year's Eve and a very inspiring, creative 2017 !

Great Cthulhu - sculpt by Paul Komoda

Publié le 27 Juillet 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

Hi folks,

My garage kit from Gecco Corp, Paul Komoda's Cthulhu, is now painted. I went for a very classical great scheme with blueish reflections in the wings. I'm happy with the model but only problem was that the claws were not very sharp and regular so I didn't manage to paint them as neatly as usual...

But a fantastic piece of art anyway, one of my favorite depictions of the Great Old One ever : must have for Lovecraft fans !

2 new Cthulhu's coming soon !

Publié le 8 Juillet 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

Hi there !

After doing a bunch of 4 tyranids in a row, it's time to go back to my favorite Great Old One. I got 2 fantastic models last week :

  • the exclusive miniature from the "Tentacle and teeth" Kickstarter from Richard Luong, a high quality miniature in plastic bu with a very good detail, and it came already assembled, so you can paint it out of the box !
  • the absolutely insanely mind-blowing Great Cthulhu sculpted by artist Paul Komoda for Gecco corp. This is a resin miniature with great detail too, but it is a garage kit, and as you can see a gap-filling nightmare, so I would only recommend this exquisite miniature for expert modelers. It's also very big : 18 cm high, see the tyrannic warrior for size comparison on last picture...

Picture time !

Trygorant, a Tyranid Uber Tyrant based on the Trygon and Harpy kits

Publié le 24 Juin 2016 par Hellric dans Tyranids, Cthulhu

Various reports of recon units mention that a new type of creature has been spotted, commanding the assault of the most brutal and deadly tyranid units of Hivefleet Cthulhu : a kind of gigantic tyrant with a very long, serpent-like tail ending in a kind of ovipositor, elongated limbs, big harpy-like wings, a head similar to the Trygon Prime one, with horns designed to channel psy-energy. From the mouth it can sprout a set of 6 vicious "whiplash" tentacles. A deadly foe with tremendous psychic powers for ranged attacks, insanely fast moving and also armed with unforgiving claws... While the Omega Hivequeen commands the swarm from the rear guard, the Trygorant are leading assaults in the front !

Here's the monster in colors after 3 week-ends of painting. Hope you'll enjoy it.

It was my last big tyranid project, in the coming months I'll be back to the Great Old Ones : 2 Great Cthulhu coming from 2 great artists are on their way : Paul Komoda's and Richard Luong's ! Then I'll also do something special with the "Pride" model from "The 7 sins, The Others" game. So if you like Lovecraftian stuff, stay tuned in the coming weeks.

New Tyranid project : huge Flying Tyrant

Publié le 1 Juin 2016 par Hellric dans Tyranids, Cthulhu

Yes it's me again, I'm in a very creative mood these days :)

I've had a Trygon/Mawloc kit for years in my cabinet, and the goal was to make a flying version of the Trygon at that time, but for some reasons I had lost motivation and inspiration and I forgot about it for a long time.

Recently, since I'm in Tyranid business again, I saw the kit again and ideas popped in my head, I made a parallel with the new Harpy kit, that would provide interesting wings and other bits. Then in the leftovers of the Haruspex and Toxicrene hive queen, I found the tentacles and tail, I didn't use them before because the model would look too "crowded". So the tentacles would be for the head in my own "Hivefleet Cthulhu" concept, but since I liked the teeth and mandibles of the Trygon kit, I used the tentacles as "tongues" sprouting from the maw, disgusting isn't it ?

The original idea of a flying Trygon had also turned to a much more cunning, menacing, heavy synapse creature, so I decided it would need legs and arms to be a kind of "uber Tyrant" (or call it another Hive Queen if you want ;) ).

The Tervigon kit provided perfect legs, just wanted them with extra hoves. For the arms, I also used Tervigon limbs but I needed extra joint, so a bit of converting was done, with added "thumb" to mimic a monstrous hand.

End of tail is the Haruspex tongue, some kind of ovipositor, the trygon's the poison glands would be small egg sacs...

On the back plates, I added Harpy blades to remind of the Harpy.

Man, I really had great time doing this monster, I'm pretty excited to see it finished, as I'm sure it'll kick ass !!!

EDIT : update with assembled miniature

Hordes "Everblight" Cthulhu finished

Publié le 31 Mai 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

You've seen the unpainted model a few days ago, now here's the painted miniature... It was speed painted in one day, no pretension here, I just wanted the model to be done as soon as possible. Anyway I think it's cool , a nice Cthulhu model using only Hordes parts, making it very coherent, looks like a true Everblight terror !

Now working on a big project, more very soon ;)

I also wanted to ask you, if you have ideas about a Cthulhu inspired miniatures, let me know, I'm very motivated at the moment :D
