Great Cthulhu - sculpt by Paul Komoda

Publié le 27 Juillet 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

Hi folks,

My garage kit from Gecco Corp, Paul Komoda's Cthulhu, is now painted. I went for a very classical great scheme with blueish reflections in the wings. I'm happy with the model but only problem was that the claws were not very sharp and regular so I didn't manage to paint them as neatly as usual...

But a fantastic piece of art anyway, one of my favorite depictions of the Great Old One ever : must have for Lovecraft fans !

2 new Cthulhu's coming soon !

Publié le 8 Juillet 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

Hi there !

After doing a bunch of 4 tyranids in a row, it's time to go back to my favorite Great Old One. I got 2 fantastic models last week :

  • the exclusive miniature from the "Tentacle and teeth" Kickstarter from Richard Luong, a high quality miniature in plastic bu with a very good detail, and it came already assembled, so you can paint it out of the box !
  • the absolutely insanely mind-blowing Great Cthulhu sculpted by artist Paul Komoda for Gecco corp. This is a resin miniature with great detail too, but it is a garage kit, and as you can see a gap-filling nightmare, so I would only recommend this exquisite miniature for expert modelers. It's also very big : 18 cm high, see the tyrannic warrior for size comparison on last picture...

Picture time !

Trygorant, a Tyranid Uber Tyrant based on the Trygon and Harpy kits

Publié le 24 Juin 2016 par Hellric dans Tyranids, Cthulhu

Various reports of recon units mention that a new type of creature has been spotted, commanding the assault of the most brutal and deadly tyranid units of Hivefleet Cthulhu : a kind of gigantic tyrant with a very long, serpent-like tail ending in a kind of ovipositor, elongated limbs, big harpy-like wings, a head similar to the Trygon Prime one, with horns designed to channel psy-energy. From the mouth it can sprout a set of 6 vicious "whiplash" tentacles. A deadly foe with tremendous psychic powers for ranged attacks, insanely fast moving and also armed with unforgiving claws... While the Omega Hivequeen commands the swarm from the rear guard, the Trygorant are leading assaults in the front !

Here's the monster in colors after 3 week-ends of painting. Hope you'll enjoy it.

It was my last big tyranid project, in the coming months I'll be back to the Great Old Ones : 2 Great Cthulhu coming from 2 great artists are on their way : Paul Komoda's and Richard Luong's ! Then I'll also do something special with the "Pride" model from "The 7 sins, The Others" game. So if you like Lovecraftian stuff, stay tuned in the coming weeks.

New Tyranid project : huge Flying Tyrant

Publié le 1 Juin 2016 par Hellric dans Tyranids, Cthulhu

Yes it's me again, I'm in a very creative mood these days :)

I've had a Trygon/Mawloc kit for years in my cabinet, and the goal was to make a flying version of the Trygon at that time, but for some reasons I had lost motivation and inspiration and I forgot about it for a long time.

Recently, since I'm in Tyranid business again, I saw the kit again and ideas popped in my head, I made a parallel with the new Harpy kit, that would provide interesting wings and other bits. Then in the leftovers of the Haruspex and Toxicrene hive queen, I found the tentacles and tail, I didn't use them before because the model would look too "crowded". So the tentacles would be for the head in my own "Hivefleet Cthulhu" concept, but since I liked the teeth and mandibles of the Trygon kit, I used the tentacles as "tongues" sprouting from the maw, disgusting isn't it ?

The original idea of a flying Trygon had also turned to a much more cunning, menacing, heavy synapse creature, so I decided it would need legs and arms to be a kind of "uber Tyrant" (or call it another Hive Queen if you want ;) ).

The Tervigon kit provided perfect legs, just wanted them with extra hoves. For the arms, I also used Tervigon limbs but I needed extra joint, so a bit of converting was done, with added "thumb" to mimic a monstrous hand.

End of tail is the Haruspex tongue, some kind of ovipositor, the trygon's the poison glands would be small egg sacs...

On the back plates, I added Harpy blades to remind of the Harpy.

Man, I really had great time doing this monster, I'm pretty excited to see it finished, as I'm sure it'll kick ass !!!

EDIT : update with assembled miniature

Hordes "Everblight" Cthulhu finished

Publié le 31 Mai 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

You've seen the unpainted model a few days ago, now here's the painted miniature... It was speed painted in one day, no pretension here, I just wanted the model to be done as soon as possible. Anyway I think it's cool , a nice Cthulhu model using only Hordes parts, making it very coherent, looks like a true Everblight terror !

Now working on a big project, more very soon ;)

I also wanted to ask you, if you have ideas about a Cthulhu inspired miniatures, let me know, I'm very motivated at the moment :D

Surprise miniature ! Tyranid Tyranthrope !

Publié le 25 Mai 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu, Tyranids

Two weeks ago, I made some cleaning and sorting in my office, and I found tons of unused and forgotten miniatures parts, among them a lot of tyranids, and a particular one attracted my attention : a Malanthrope from Forge World.

Nice body full of tentacles, but nearly no limbs, looking too "kind" to my taste, so I had the idea of making a Tyrant from this body. I used a head plate from a Zoanthrope so the creature has a proper Tyrant head, made it more gribbly by adding small Zoathrope arms as mandibles.

I had the "walking" legs from my flyrant left, and these were the perfect size, but I had to find a suitable pose to use them, so I rotated the torso with the tail to the front instead of the tail to the bottom.

Next I found some Reaper Bones wings of the good size, just added the Malanthrope hands on top of them so they look more Niddy.

As the tail points to the front, I added the end of the tyrant's tail, so it looks more aggressive and more like a Tyrant.

And last but not least, I needed 2 claw arms, those of an old lector were perfect, so that's it !

Let's call this a "Tyranthrope" since the insane Hive Queens of Hivefleet Cthulhu had the idea to mix Malanthrope and Tyrant DNA !

The model was painted quickly in 2 weeks, so no WIP this time, just the finished creature. I'm very happy of it, it looks coherent, with my little "Cthulhu" touch, and with a nice pose, as if he was cornered by powerful foe but well decided to counter-attack... Enjoy !

Great Cthulhu using parts from Hordes Everblight, assembled

Publié le 25 Mai 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

So I got the parts this week, the Angelius and Heavy Proteus arrived and the assembled model came quickly as I was eager to get it done.

Main body is the Heavy Proteus, with added Angelius wings and a venoms dart at the end of the tail, coming for; a lesser gribbly Everblight monster.

I removed the small arms of the Proteus because Cthulhu isn't supposed to have 4 arms. Thanks to the green stuff for this model, there was some gap filling well needed here despite the overal good quality of the models.

I tried to add the smaller wings on the shoulders but it was a bit overkill and too "crowded", so I removed them finally.

Here's the final model, awaiting his paint :)

Tyranid Flying Swarmlord from HF Cthulhu painted !

Publié le 2 Avril 2016 par Hellric dans Tyranids, Cthulhu

Hi there,

So as promised, here are the pics of the Swarmlord done, just in the same paint scheme as his Omega Pattern Hivequeen. I love the dynamics of the model rushing on full attack while the Queen is strongly holding ground :) !

Now looking at my spare parts to do something with that old Forgeworld malanthrope and ideas are popping ;) ...

Fewture EX Gokin Grendizer (a.k.a. Goldorak!)

Publié le 1 Avril 2016 par Hellric dans Mech & robots

Hi, it's been a veeeeery long time since I posted robots here.

This one is something like a child's dream come true... When I was 8-10 years old, I watched a Japanese anime called "Goldorak" (in Europe, Grendizer in US/Japan), it was kind of my hero in those happy times, and so I've always wanted to have one.

As a grown up I liked the robots to be less cartoon like and more technological so my favorite line of those "Gokins" are the one from Fewture EX Gokin line.

These are really luxury figures, fully articulated and done in heavy metal with great joints. Of course, all the accessories are there, so I added the twin Harken axe and the Double Spazer jet fighter on the back !

Another great addition to my ever expanding line up :-)

So this is it !

Next project, Kaiju-style Cthulhu using Hordes Everblight parts

Publié le 29 Mars 2016 par Hellric dans Cthulhu

Hi guys,

As I'm on holiday this week, I'm spending time on my minis. The flying Swarmlord is 2/3 done in the same paint scheme as the Hive Queen Omega, I will show it in a few days.

But I'm already looking forward to my next project. For the first time I'm going to use parts from Privateer Press' Hordes, mixing two warbeasts : the Heavy Proteus and the Angelius, the result should be a Great Cthulhu that has a Kaiju blend.

That should be quite straight, just removing small arms, adding the big wings (maybe using some small ones too), improving the tail... that should be enough as the model itself is obviously inspired by my favourite great Old One ;)

Feel free to add suggestions or feedback in comments !
